The History of American Mining Insurance Company

The Company was incorporated as Southern Fire Insurance Company under the laws of Alabam on February 7, 1984. It remained dormant until February 1, 1987 when the name was changed to Interlaken Insurance Company and a small amount of property coverage was underwritten.

On April 4, 1989, the Company was purchased by CGH Insurance Group, and a niche company specializing in mining operations was born. A group of visionary insurance professionals began building a financially viable, stable insurance carrier offering primarily Workers' Compensation Insurance, but also providing General Liability, Automobile and Excess Liability Coverages.

As it has grown and expanded geographically, American Mining Insurance Company has become the preferred provider of insurance coverages to many within the mining and aggregates industries.

American Mining Insurance Company is, and will remain, totally committed to providing multi-line coverage for mining and mine related companies.

On October 4, 2007, CGH Insurance Group and its subsidiaries, including American Mining Insurance Company were aquired by W. R. Berkley Corporation.

In early 2008, A.M. Best upgraded American Mining Insurance Company's rating to A+ Superior.
